If you have a strong interest in fixed income investing and investment advisory, then this is the role for you!  Legg Mason is seeking a Fixed Income Product Manager to join the US Product team. The Fixed Income Product Manager is responsible for optimizing Legg Mason’s ’40 Act fixed income mutual fund product suite for robust growth, appropriate market share and profitability. The Fixed Income Product Manager is a senior member of the US Product organization.

 

This position may be based either in Stamford, CT or New York, NY.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Vehicle Lifecycle Management:

  • Lead activities associated with the launch, restructuring, merging, closing or re-opening of US ’40 Act fixed income mutual funds, including management of fund share class structure
  • Collaborate in the development of new product strategies
  • Oversee seed capital within fixed income mutual funds
  • Work with Legal team on prospectus and other regulatory filings
  • Supervise implementation of product changes including sales communications and data hub integrity
  • Present to US Fund Boards to attain product related approvals

Investment Positioning:

  • Responsible for competitor analyses from a product design perspective
  • Determine optimal product positioning including consideration of peer group categories and benchmarking
  • Work collaboratively with investment affiliates on product enhancements
  • Act as a resource for US Product, Sales and Marketing to ensure consistency in affiliates’ investment strategy, philosophy, process, performance, and market outlook in marketing and sales materials and internal notes
  • Provide proactive updates on important affiliate and competitor related investment news such as investment issues, portfolio management changes, strategy decisions

Business Management & Strategy:

  • Ensure ’40 Act Fixed Income vehicles are strategically positioned within the market place (and among LM’s broader product line-up) to encourage profitable growth
  • Serve as subject matter expert for vehicle expenses and expense limitations, and conduct ongoing market analysis to ensure consistent and competitive pricing practices
  • Develop recommendations and produce in-depth strategic analyses to support product recommendations for the Product Strategy Committee, New Business Committee and the Fund Boards
  • Work in a cross-functional capacity in the planning and execution of strategic initiatives through financial modeling and analysis to inform decision making, identify potential issues and develop alternative approaches

Qualifications:

Critical Skills:

  • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills with the ability to organize and interpret investment data to reach conclusions
  • Solid data-driven, business judgment and understanding of the capital markets, quantitative analysis, and statistical methods
  • Working knowledge of broker/dealer firms and investment advisor product platforms
  • Ability to dig deep into data to find trends and insights
  • Ability to present data visually through graphs, charts and reports in a clear and effective manner
  • Ability to be innovative. Displays original thinking and creativity
  • Ability to meet new challenges with resourcefulness, developing new approaches and ideas
  • Ability to proactively identify and anticipate client needs, and make solution-oriented recommendations for implementation
  • Flexible and adaptive with an ability to work independently or with a team on multiple concurrent projects with various departments and components throughout a global organization
  • Ability to prioritize work/projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills with superb public speaking and presentation ability

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • MBA and/or CFA
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ work relevant experience, or equivalent combination of degree and work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of fixed income investing and investment advisory subjects
  • Series 7 & 63 licenses a plus
