The Role:

  • Give accurate and timely counsel internally on a variety of legal, risk & compliance topics including contracts, joint ventures, Estate Agents Ordinance, Estate Agents Authority, first-hand residential property sales, Trade Descriptions Ordinance, employment, data privacy, anti-bribery & corruption, and anti-money laundering
  • Set internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Work closely with operations to produce checklists to facilitate compliance
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, etc)
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to protect the company
  • Handle claims by interfacing between our lawyers, insurers, and staff concerned
  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders
  • Conduct in-house training on legal, risk & compliance topics
  • Conduct work with a high level of ethics and integrity
  • Keep abreast of changes in laws and regulations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Law degree from a recognised university
  • At least 5 years’ experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or in-house in an MNC / NGO / governmental environment; experience in the real estate sector desirable but not essential
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong negotiating skills in legal and commercial issues
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Sound judgement and strong commercial acumen
  • Proven ability to produce practical solutions
  • Willingness to be hands on
  • A team player who can also work independently
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
