Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • SARS Customs work experience and qualifications advantageous
  • Suitable qualification in terms of the Customs & Excise Act, Rules and Regulations (Preferably a tertiary qualification in International Customs Law & Administration) (Mercantile Law)
  • Successful qualification of a Leadership programme
  • External qualification iro Customs procedures
  • Extensive proven experience in forwarding and clearing industry at operations as well at a senior management level
  • Proven record of managing and leading employees and implementing change management principles
  • Applying the legislative parameters of the Customs & Excise Act, Rules & regulations at different levels throughout the supply chain
  • Poven experiience in Customs consultancy at a senior level
  • Ability to do high level presentations to internal and external parties at a senior level
  • Extensive exposure and interaction with SARS Customs & other government organisations at all levels

Key Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients at senior management level and educate them of pending changes, look for opportunities to add value
  • Implement best practice, consistency and manage non-confomances via SmartSure
  • Render specialist consultancy service to internal and external clients to self-assess compliance and reduce and manage risk
  • Manage and optimise the OTIFNE (On Time In Full No Errors) performance within the team
  • Retain and acquire business through exceptional value add consultancy opportunities and relationship building
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Ensure best practice prevails and share value add opportunities or lessons learnt with the national Customs team
  • Work closely with Customs Executive to ensure we manage Customs risks and implement best practice
  • Ensure all management and key staff aware and up to date on Customs modernisation and other changes
  • Build strong relationships at a senior level with all top clients and consistently add value
  • Share best practice to ensure consistency of service
  • Proactively manage all aspects of the Customs Risk Register
  • Undertake cross-functional exposure within the company to ensure consistency of service and communication/best practice
  • Motivate applications for value determination to ensure correct application of value determination
  • Monitor and control the daily activities of the team in the absence of Entries Manager / Customs Specialist
  • Ensure full adherence to the prescribed policies and procedures within the team
  • Identify potential risk areas and implement mitigation strategies for the team
  • Implement checks and controls in an attempt to avoid penalties and reputational risk
  • Liaise with KAM’s and Service Consultants to ensure client requirements are met and regarding existing and future client requirements
  • Managing information to support and improve operational efficiency and client satisfaction
