The ELCA Foundation sustains and grows ministries of the ELCA. It is responsible for major gifts and deferred giving programs for individual donors and pooled investment opportunities for ELCA related ministries.

Job Summary:

Located in Chicago and reporting to the Director of the ELCA Foundation, the Compliance Manager is responsible for the oversight of compliance and regulatory matters surrounding the ELCA’s deferred gifts programs and the Endowment Fund Pooled Trust.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Oversee the preparation and dissemination of regulatory registrations. Work with investment consultant and Office of the Treasurer to coordinate periodic reports for the Board of Trustees, investment sub-committee and internal staff.
2. Manage day-to-day compliance for the Endowment Fund Pooled Trust, charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities. Coordinate inter-unit/intra-unit and external partner responsibilities to update/complete all quarterly disclosure statements, endowment fund marketing materials and client reports in compliance with government regulations.
3. Work with the ELCA’s compliance committee to create an annual compliance calendar to gather financial information and other data required to meet deadlines.
4. Review gift agreements and related contracts to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to gift acceptance policies.
5. Stay abreast of changes to regulations affecting the Endowment Fund Pooled Trust, charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION
A minimum of 5 years of regulatory compliance and registration experience, with primary emphasis in the areas of investment management, charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities is required. Experience managing deferred gift programs with implications related to UPMIFA is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree required, compliance certification and/or training preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capacity to manage multiple tasks, ability to work closely with both internal and external clients.
• Ability to consult with internal operating units and staff affected by compliance and regulatory issues or requirements.
